Photography Gear

Sony alpha 850. 25
Megapixel, full-frame DSLR. Sony bought out Minolta's
camera technology. The alpha frame will work with most
Minolta lenses. I use the Minolta 28-135mm f/4 to f/4.5 as
my primary lens.
-
Sony lenses. We use the 50mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.8, 100mm
f/2.8 Macro, 16-80mm f/3.5 to f/4.5, 70-300mmG f/4 to f/4.5, and
500mm f/8.
-
Sony Flashes.
- Dyxum. The Dyxum
site has great reviews of anything Sony DSLR. They also
have a great forum.
-
Manfrotto. Manfrotto makes some of the better tripods,
monopods, and heads.
- Chuck
Arlund I went to high school with Chuck.
Great guitarist. Great photographer.
Music Gear
- Parker Guitars.
Ken Parker made guitars for Fender and Gibson. He was
amazed that no matter how close tolerance he built guitars, they
still didn't sound the same. He started his own company,
using CNC machines to make the guitars. They still don't
sound the same. These are, in my opinion, the best
sounding guitar on the market (I've owned most of the major
brands). Hard to find, but worth the search.
- Steinberg
makes a product called Cubase that I use for recording.
- M-Audio. They
make musical interfaces for computer based recording.
-
Yamaha. Not only do I ride their bikes, I use their
keyboards and electronic drums.
Audio Gear
- Magnepan makes some
increadible speakers. If you want an introduction to high
end audio, try the MMGs. They are a steal at $550 / pair
with a 30-day return policy if you're not satisfied. We
have the 1.6s for the fronts, CC1 for the center channel, MMGs
for the rears and the MMG-Ws for the rear-rears.
- Martin Logan makes
some great speakers. We have a pair of CLSs. I'm
hoping that we'll be able to get some CLXs in the next year or
so.
- Ayre Acoustics. We
have an amp, and soon, we'll have their pre-amp and CD player.
- Audioquest makes
some great speaker wire, interconnects, HDMI cables, and power
cables. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise... there is a
difference. Even with the power cables.
- Audio
Alternatives. They are in Lilburn, GA. Alan
started out selling used audio equipment, now he's one of the
last remaining stores to get high end audio.
- Audiogon is a great
site for used gear.
Food and Wine
-
Beaulieu Vineyards. I would say about 70% of our wines
are from BV, mostly the Georges de La Tour Private Reserve.
If you're at a store, trying to buy wine, you won't go wrong
with BV.
- Fusco's via Roma.
Located in Acworth, GA. Amazing food with a great
atmosphere.
- Gabriel's Deserts.
Johnnie is a cousin to Paula Dean. Mostly known for her
desserts (she did our wedding cake), she also has some great
deli-type food.
